Hello, and thank you for reading. This is nothing more than a very quick check-in to acknowledge that it’s been a little quiet in “Keeping Up” land of late.
There are, of course, some fairly obvious reasons why the last few months have not felt especially conducive to the production of this publication’s stock-in-trade: light-hearted pop culture updates. I have also begun work on a mysterious new project that will keep me very busy for at least a year, meaning that “Keeping Up” updates will also be thin on the ground for the forseeable future. However, don’t feel that you need to unsubscribe, because you never know what might pop up, including, possibly, vague updates on said project.
Before I go, one quick rec: I Signed The Petition (2018), a short and exceptionally sharp film by the Danish-Palestinian filmmaker Mahdi Fleifel.
And a link to white-man’s-Afro jazz legend Keith Jarrett’s extraordinary Köln Concert, to which I’ve been listening on repeat. It’s very soothing stuff:
Nothing feels especially happy right now, but I’m sending love and courage for 2024. Until next time.

Insightful description of KJ who I have seen in concert in various configurations over 50 times. See you tomorrow at MoMA. https://www.moma.org/calendar/events/9275
